What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
I
was speaking to my counsellor the other day in one of our sessions. We were talking about my identity and the things I consider important about myself.
“So,” she said, “we’ve identified a couple of things that you consider important to your identity, but what else is there? I want to know about the things that make you you.”
I thought for a second. I say ‘I thought’, my mind went blank. I had nothing to offer her.
One of the things I did mention was my intelligence. Not that I think I’m massively intelligent, but I’m certainly capable. It’s something about me that I consider my viewpoint to be an objective one.
The other thing was some of the emotional weight I carry.
Regardless, after I left the session, I was walking and thinking.
‘I’m a whole person,’ I thought. ‘There must be more to me. You could say a bunch of stuff about someone else.’
I didn’t come up with much.
However.
I did realise this.
I am damn kind.
And that is something I value in myself. My kindness. I mean, we all want to be kind (I think?), and of course I don’t succeed every time.
But by and large, I am really damn kind. I have a good heart.
Why would I change that?
